Just as the Greeks and the Egyptians have their civilisation, Britain had its civilisation in the 19th century as a result of leading the industrial revolution. Public houses were on every street corner and are part of our heritage, our civilisation. By losing these important buildings we are losing a significant part of our heritage.
In the UK four public houses are closing a day (This is Money; Nov 2015). This figure is backed up by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) who give a figure of 29 closing a week. Many of these public houses will be demolished for redevelopment as residential accommodation particularly in London.
I want to raise awareness of our important built heritage because many historic buildings will be lost over the next 10 years mostly to redevelopment.
